That seem wrong. Definition of virtue signaling is signaling virtue. If someone decides to donate for a local organization IN SILENCE, they're doing good. Mixing up "not utility-maximized donations" with virtue signaling is counterproductive.

But how many people donate without telling _anyone_ about it? Even 'anonymous' donors still brag to their spouses and close friends. Still signaling.
