Part of freedom of speech is freedom of association. If one person exercises their freedom of speech in a way that others dislike, those others have just as much of a right to exercise their freedom of speech (including by disassociation) as the first person did to speak.

Acadia University is in Canada, I don't know anything about their rights. But in general people should be able to speak their views and engage in debate without fear of reprisals. The situation lately is such polarization, spirited debate turns into savage attacks too fast.

In short, the difference between US and Canadian free speech laws is that you do not have complete and total freedom of expression under the constitution: "only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society."
