'Did we really need a study to show this?'
Yes we did.
Because over 90% of psychology researchers are Left/liberal, and can't see their own bias, even as they're pathologizing conservatives, centrists, and libertarians. @joerogan @jmrphy

I've recently been struck by how many movements that were, in retrospect, obvious totalitarian moral cults (e.g. the English Puritans) were portrayed by their apologists (e.g. Max Weber) as "anti-authoritarian."
-
it's not just in retrospect that their authoritarian nature was discovered. the English Puritans were basically ejected from England because of that. They were intolerable even to their contemporaries.

What a stupid study. Anyone who examines political science or authoritarian movements knows this already. Latin America, for example, tends toward left authoritarianism. (Probably unique confluence of liberation theology and colonialism.) Whereas right bias in western powers.

It seems pike obvious: remove the veneer from left or right authoritarians and you get the same inhuman theory loving arrogance. The real fight was always democracy vs authoritarianism not left v right. The latter is only to clear the decks to decide which despots rule.

Is there a psychological rigidity scale, because I suspect both political fringes will be quite high.

My thoughts too along with thinking they represent a small percentage of the population at any given time as with fanatics of any ideology or belief.
