Over 50 billion farm animals are being raised for human food right now, mostly in bad conditions. Showing any concern at all about the vast scope of this suffering provokes many twitter trolls to call one a 'soyboy'. Ah, life's rich diversity of ethical principles.

I strongly supported the Paleo diet in my 'Mate' book (2015), and think it's a great foundation for physical health. But since then, I've grown more concerned about the ethical problems with factory-farmed meat and fish.

It feels a bit like a false dichotomy though. A harm free alternative is implied. But anyone who’s really thought it thru realizes that plant agriculture also causes immense harm to animals. Not sure exactly how things balance out, but that dimension should not be glossed over.
