Over 50 billion farm animals are being raised for human food right now, mostly in bad conditions. Showing any concern at all about the vast scope of this suffering provokes many twitter trolls to call one a 'soyboy'. Ah, life's rich diversity of ethical principles.

I think subtle conflation of “factory farming” with “eating meat” is more damaging to the dialogue of treating animals well than it is helpful
The vast majority of animals raised for 'meat' are factory-farmed chickens, and their conditions are generally horrific.

I’ll concede that on the level of 50 BILLION animals, the personal ethics of eating meat cease to be relevant, especially as Factory Farms get more efficient and so more evil. However, I see living, responsible stewardship of animals as part of the solution
