The point of pronatalism isn't to make babies. The point is to make future adults who can grow civilization, live good lives, and make good lives in turn.

Would you counsel antinatalism to those whose progeny are unlikely to grow civilization?
No, I'm happy for everybody to make their own decisions. I'm just trying to remind people of the long-term consequences of those decisions

Indeed. I actually see nothing wrong with reasonably nudging people in one or another direction. Japan could probably use a bit more pronatalism. Sudan and Somalia, probably a bit less.

The main thing is to make contraception available to everyone around the world who wants it and can't get it easily, and to provide family-friendly policies for everyone who wants kids and can't manage the heart-breaking trade-offs that they currently face.
