Horticultural advice sincerely sought: best medium-sized trees to plant in a front lawn in New Mexico high desert (hardiness zone 7a), that would grow fast and look good, given an auto sprinkler system?

The Tonto crape myrtle does well in zone 7a and should thrive in NM. Other good choices: Muskogee crape, pink dogwood, and Cleveland pear. They all grow fast and add color to a front yard.

Don’t plant a lawn. If you do, then don’t plant trees in it, unless they are containerized. Vastly different watering requirements for lawn vs trees.
