I can't speak for the professorial side, but as a student veteran it can be a lonely landscape for somebody with a liberal/libertarian domestic policy and a conservative foreign policy. I felt more welcome in Sumarrah.
Nothing frightens American academia more than the realization that some faculty might be freedom-loving patriots first, and professors only second.
