And yet, within the last few years, a large proportion of AI researchers have been convinced that they are working on a potential X-risk, and they're taking it seriously. Is it really prudent to dismiss that consensus? Would love to chat about this sometime.

Great point. There are real concerns to the extent in which AI will be able to develop, in part because of the lack of international oversight into its development. It has become winner takes all.

I'm sure that a large proportion of every profession vastly overestimate their importance. (Is it hard to believe that a large proportion of FBI Agents think that they're protecting the world from existential risk?)
