Really? I would have thought it was pretty fundable work. What happened?
Ev Psych was perceived as 'reactionary', 'sexist', 'racist', 'reductionist', etc. by many of the 90% of psych faculty who are on the political left. They've blocked hires, grants, etc systematically. The ideological bias has been crippling.

Except that all the funding and bias gave us a social psych that isn't reliable. If EP got the same benefits and incentives it would be no better. Can't claim that status quo corrupts and then claim that EP is bad because it didn't benefit!
