Ev Psych would be a lot stronger if it hadn't been subject to three decades of ideological hostility in grants, tenure track jobs, journal reviews, etc. This deters many good researchers from entering and sticking with it. It's still a tiny field for that reason.

Really? I would have thought it was pretty fundable work. What happened?

Ev Psych was perceived as 'reactionary', 'sexist', 'racist', 'reductionist', etc. by many of the 90% of psych faculty who are on the political left. They've blocked hires, grants, etc systematically. The ideological bias has been crippling.
