I do not understand how committed, long-term trolls are able to function. It cannot be psychologically healthy to constantly ruminate over people you despise. Can any former-trolls explain?

Around here in developing part of the world, it's a professional effort and often politically motivated; folks trolling for a quick buck... takes care of their cigarettes/liquor etc.

I wasn’t aware that was common (outside of Russia). Would like to know more about that, if you have links.

Is this research based on people who self identify as trolls? I imagine many who are effectively trolls do not consider themselves trolls.

A questionnaire is used to determine trolling behavior. We wrote an article on troll nature: http://m.nautil.us/blog/the-true-nature-of-an-internet-troll …pic.twitter.com/mUH731y8rJ

How do you guys define "trolls". I see many different explanations on here, & quite honestly see adults use the term for too broad of purposes. I reserve the term only for people who are committed to satire, i.e. parody accounts. Just saying offensive stuff ≠ "trolling" to me
