How do you distinguish between pride and value/esteem? I wonder whether the "pride" you may feel for your culture/family/heritage is more a sense of the good fortune of being involved in a Good Thing

A kid can be justly proud of their first kindergarten painting, but over the span of their life, is it very meaningful? I suspect the childhood pride may fall away and be replaced with feelings of amusement and nostalgia.
