In the 80's I was a Republican grad student in a dept of ecology and evolution. Everyone knew. But I was not suppressed or silenced. Conservatives won't believe that.

At my current University the recent chair of the faculty Senate is a Republican. Everyone knows. He is not silenced. Chair of another dept is a Rep. An ecologist friend of mine at another uni is retiring after super career - Rep and loved by administration.
