Evolutionary psychology doesn't have or need an emotional foundation. It's a fact about a causal history of the brain and its mind. Anyone is free to make of that fact what they want. Only false beliefs need emotional foundations. For true beliefs it suffices that they be true.

That's true in principle for rational cognitive agents. But it may not be enough to motivate success in grad school, for example.

Once you introduce emotional foundations, what happens when the science turns up a fact that happens to be dissonant with those emotional foundations? What if there are alternative facts that would sound even better according to those emotional foundations?

Then you need an emotional update, analogous to a cognitive update. A different way to map the science's (non-intuitive) content onto one's values, concerns, and motives.
