A key function of 'traditions' is to manage the complex social, sexual, & economic trade-offs that people can't discuss rationally.

But can’t those traditions become defunct? The point is to separate the wheat from the chaff. But many do conflate tradition w/ regression.
Yep. One heuristic: have the fundamental trade offs changed? If not, tradition likely still relevant.

Trying to think of good traditions, I mainly fall on manners, civil discourse, human rights. There’s more but can see how it gets a bad rap.

Jewish traditions of e.g. kashrut, sabbath, minyan, encourage living near other Jews, and forming strong communities.

Sexual ones certainly have since we have functional contraception. Financial ones too since we have fiat money. And no more food scarcity

So all traditions related to profound risk adversion on such matters are actually damaging society in a very big way (ie "debt is bad")
