A political system that can minimize existential risks and maximize global intergenerational public goods. Is that too much to ask?

It doesn’t make any sense to sacrifice for future generations, they will be much richer than us and can take care of themselves.
I'm just concerned that we don't go extinct, which would make future generations rather.... hypothetical.
