SJWs and hippies love ornament and other primitive things.

Ornament is not primitive. CRUDE ornament is primitive. Advanced societies have more advanced (complex, refined, rich in meaning) ornament.

Modernism is full of deliberate crudeness, because the left loves to celebrate the primitive as a symbol of rejection of aristocratic values

Talk to a hippie and he’ll tell you to read Lewis Mumford and Jane Jacobs.

He’ll tell you that the Italian Futurists paved the way for fascism and blame Le Corbusier for failed urban renewal.

They may say those things, but Corbu was a syndicalist (left anarchist), and the Fascist Manifesto comprised entirely leftist policies.

Another theme that high modernists inherited from the Arts & Crafts movement was a hatred of pretence. We’re not Greek philosophers.

We’re not Roman Centurions. We’re not Spanish missionaries. Nor are we English Tudors. We’re modern people living in an industrial age.
