IMO virtue signaling is real, and it needs a name. too many socjus types care more about *feeling righteous* than having the hard convos.
Virtue signaling is a great name, because it alludes to costly signaling theory, a branch of evolutionary game theory, and to virtue ethics.

Yes, but costly signaling theory gives a framework for distinguishing cheap talk from reliable signals. I've find it useful in my books.
