Even if signaling hypothesis is true, it's rational for those who spend the time and money and effort to do so. No regret involved.

There may be huge regret if the signaling product sold to students (e.g. B.A. in Media Studies) doesn't live up to its advertised claims.

IMO, signalling is a thing, but education is too. I work with grad students and have seen it happen, maybe even take some credit.
