This assumes that the aliens are Sat Trek villains. They've long slipped into their simulated realities and couldn't care less about us.
But are we willing to bet our species and planet on our understanding of civilizations vastly more advanced than us?

Of course not. I just think it's an esoteric, long tail concern.

It just seems prudent to wait at least another few centuries before we do active messaging -- when we can better predict the real odds.
