I don't think there're nods and winks for physical sciences candidates. So please don't exaggerate.
Every candidate for a US faculty position knows their job talk must include some nods and winks to progressive liberalism. The bias is real.

You're right, it's mostly in humanities, social sciences, and behavioral sciences; hard sciences are more strictly meritocratic.
