I hate that as much as anyone, but in fairness "sex" also means "intercourse", so the word can confuse.

"Sex" is a physical act. "Gender" identifies a state of being. Genders have sex with one another.

I know I shouldn't but... is there a word or phrase you use to denote biological (say, XX versus XY) difference, as distinct from gender?
