Its not the same as pleiotropy. The argument isnt that the proteins or genes' direct functions are pleiotropic. Rather they act in concert.

I argued for a many-to-many mapping from genes to traits. Pleiotropic from the genes' viewpoint, polygenic from the traits' viewpoint.

(Hmm: Pleio-tropic means 'many effects', one gene many effects. The 'massively' --> approx., a great many genes are very pleiotropic.)
