agree this is confounded and there are almost certainly multiple causes anyway but I've been reading about

suicide (Thomas Joiner) and apparently most completed suicides work up to ability to self-inflict lethal harm

sometimes smaller self-harms, sometimes string of provocative/hardening life experiences like accidental injuries

so BDSM may facilitate that. but suicides also have to have desire to kill selves of course (possibly the stigma)

thing what you say might be true, but if you check text, it seems to be specifically about more survived attempts

the BDSM link does seem to be about attempts. attempts are good predictor of completely suicide in general
