I'd be totally down for our own version of Bespin. 90% earth's mass is much more ideal for long term human habitation and reproduction... just if the thing crashes it's a guaranteed all hands lost scenario on that hellscape of a surface.

I think the gas envelope is just full of breathable air so if you take on enough of the Venusian atmosphere to start losing altitude you will probably suffocate long before you hit the ground.
