How far we’ve come. I don’t often think this way, but I think it’s a wonderful thing that female artists, like myself, are allowed to learn anatomy today. It was forbidden not long ago. That lady has some odd proportions - understandably.

I think it was illegal for men too when Raphael lived. I once read that Michaelangelo snug into morgues to cut up dead bodies to study their anatomy.

1) Appalling taxidermy - albeit it started out as a dog and got hacked around subsequently. And one of the sloppiest sets of sloping shoulders in art history. Not to mention a mean mouth. Raphael wouldn't have had it in his top ten given the choice. But . . .

2) . . . it's still pretty good. And interesting. Particularly the pillars. Identical to the trimmed down pillars in the Prado Mona Lisa.. Opens all sorts of interesting questions.
