I was a lifelong registered Democrat. I always assumed @foxnews was idiotic.
But the last couple weeks I've been watching @TuckerCarlson every night. And I gotta say, he seems like one of the few journalists who really understands what's going on, & has the courage to say it.

Tucker is usually thoughtful but this is a bad example. Automation and job obsolescence have been going on for well over 200 years. There's no economic evidence that any current "AI" or robotics have or will accelerate this process. It's a sci-fi story.
The smartest people I know are very divided on this issue. Not sure what to think.

The smartest people I know (that are actually working in the field) aren't. They're all very bullish on automation and "low tech AI" in particular, that is just using the current state of the art for many small incremental improvements that together are transformational.

My take is that capitalism could operate without humans and might run away without us. There’s no reason a priori that when a person’s job gets automated that they’ll have other tasks they do better than machines. I think people could permenantly be replaced and that’s p scary.
