Yup. I was broke all through college & grad school but I had access to a world class library. I lived on a wild life refuge for most of that time. Hiked with my dogs & read a lot of books in those years. A good life & good time in my life. The arcanum of knowledge is vast.

This makes me feel a lot more confident actually. Thankfully I was the only son who would read for my librarian mother. Pleased to know it could become a superpower.

true, and I recommend to read each paper abstract and figures/tables first, then make your own conclusion then read the rest of the paper. you'll free yourself from the authors' narrative

Reading is the only way a student can flourish at university. Yet a large proportion of students are convinced that they should be able to pass without reading anything other than websites. Universities pressure lecturers to promote alternatives to reading. Ridiculous.

That's great! I've been reading a book per week since 2019. I thought I was not going to have time this year because I started to work (so I can pay College). Feels good. You can read 300 abstracts of a scientific paper, but the hole thing sounds a little chimerical. Goodreads:pic.twitter.com/Nz13dA0pTu

Wow spot on and explains my fristration in 2nd year psych. I tried to form a journal club but my younger cohort don’t have the bandwidth. I sometimes know more than the educator.

True that. I was at Olin and Mann library every day getting books and copying articles (in the days of Xerox), annotating etc. My grad time at Cornell was heaven.

btw,
@primalpoly I read your book Mating Mind and truly love it. My work is all about social dominance and how adolescents achieve it through either nefarious ways or prosocial ways. It's Function that counts, not Form.
