Of course 'rote memorization of facts' was code for 'teaching reliable factual knowledge that can be assessed objectively on tests and exams'. The alternative was 'teaching critical thinking skills' and 'raising awareness', which also didn't mean quite what they claimed to mean.

Amazing in 2020 how many academics teach that knowledge is useless. Must not take even 1-step through what this would imply. Like "that implies last year's lecture, indeed everything I know is uselessly outdated: is it?" or "Why do professionals invest in learning to use tools?"

Yep. Western Public Educations major accomplishment has been the creation of millions of emotionally stunted adult sized Middle Schoolers conditioned to believe only “what” they told and in “who” they are allowed/not allowed to believe.

2/Small investment in learning technique makes memorization of pages of data almost effortless for rest of life. Of course memorization is the syntax; still have to learn the semantics. But that too becomes easier because have memory pegs to link semantics to.

Also shows that a lot of money has gone to CPB/PBS/NPR projects, like those of Dr. Henry Gates Jr. & Ken Burns, that have been ignored by their own supposed audiences/supporters, much less broader populace. & reading is fundamental.
