My dad was a lawyer, pilot, musician, Columbia grad, history buff, collector of antique cars, dedicated family man, & patriot.
He taught me how to argue rationally, write clearly, value traditions, stay open-minded about innovations, & be an engaged citizen.

Traditions are innovations that have proven their value. Some may be outdated, but many might still be useful. Chesterton's Fence, etc.
