He taught me how to argue rationally, write clearly, value traditions, stay open-minded about innovations, & be an engaged citizen.

fine, but why is it important to value tradition??? It's the opposite of innovation.
Traditions are innovations that have proven their value. Some may be outdated, but many might still be useful. Chesterton's Fence, etc.
