I’m very open to the argument that Christianity is the best available totalizing narrative and that its putative replacements have been a string of pseudo-secular religions with deleterious consequences.

What’s the difference between your being a rabid atheist and a respectful agnostic? As far as I can tell one’s beliefs would be lacking in all the same ways, is it more about public perception of the terms or a more broadly adopted interpretation of religions?

Same here. Part of me almost misses the community and strong moral clarity Christianity has on a wide variety of issues. Obvious downsides are when they are wrong (I.e evolution)

I think acting like God transcends both existence and non-existence and whose physical laws are eternal (so science can be done) is on a converging path with, and today’s most important corrective to, Christianity.
