If book-burning didn't have such bad historical associations, you know they'd already be burning all the books they don't like. They only thing preventing that, for the moment, is the 'bad optics'.

"decolonize your bookshelf" is the new book burning. with all the talking heads on tv with their bookshelves for backdrops, it's only a matter of time before someone is cancelled for having the wrong book. because people are wasting time fastidiously parsing this stuff.
Lunatics are already scrutinizing people's bookshelf contents in the backgrounds of their youtube videos. Already happening.

Nitpick: They're not lunatics; they're fanatics. Or they're quite sane and just being consciously Machiavellian. I usually feel sorry for lunatics; they tend to be as much a danger to themselves as other people. Fanatics not so much.
