That was certainly my impression both from Bloom's book and from my time as a student in the early-to-mid 90s. I actually ditched two majors because of the impossibility of doing good work in the humanities, even back then.

I think it, as an institution, will fight like hell to survive, but it will do anything to survive which means it will continue to be twisted toward power.

Me to. Every single bit of the UK infrastructure is infected with it. I cant think of a single time in history where this hasnt gone back in its box without serious violence. Let alone the violence that is committed in its uprising.
