Some people have made the point to me that it's a lot easier to face down a cybermob if you're a billionaire like J.K. Rowling. That's true. But you don't need to be a billionaire. E.g. having academic tenure is enough to make you fairly safe from repercussions.

I guess that's it. But the same applies to Rowling. She can have a billion pounds or whatever she has, but, leaving aside the financial part, she must also be under a lot of social and professional pressure. So I still think she's courageous to stick to her position & explain it.

it's "courageous" if you're sympathetic to her underlying substantive point, "obstinate" if you're neutral, "cruel" if you disagree. I think maybe the best description is "dogmatic"
