Before you make fun of someone for wearing a mask in public, remind yourself that they might 1) have a pre-existing condition & higher risk 2) live with an older adult (e.g. parent) at higher risk 3) be a health care worker taking extra precautions for their patientshttps://twitter.com/Dr_RShatsky/status/1271966936562167808 …

Went for a walk in what ended up being an unexpectedly crowded area today. My hubs and I were wearing masks and were basically the only ones. People stopped, laughed at us, and said mean things. It was disheartening. I am an oncologist trying to protect my patients😞. #bcsm

Why not remember that they might not want to catch or spread the virus? Isn't that enough justification, beyond those more extreme cases mentioned?

Is mask-wearing in the US these days *that* uncommon (outside of protests and riots, where it clearly seems to be common, judging from the footage I see)?

At the market in West Los Angeles this week, 100% that I saw were wearing masks.

And remember that making fun of people is bad.

I think in many cases it's ok to make fun of people.

Their mask doesn’t protect them!! (Unless it’s n95). It’s to protect YOU

Good points. People should also remind themselves that this sort of behavior is obnoxious and rude.

Different vibe in LA (at least my neighborhood). People are out. Everyone has a mask.

This is exactly what my wife and I do. Benefit of the doubt. Better to live life that way I think. Someone speeding down the freeway? Instead of being pissed off, think maybe they are trying to get to the hospital for an emergency. No sweat

If it was me, I would walk up to the person, remove my mask, say while coughing “sorry I was showing symptoms so I was trying to protect people”. Right in their face.
