Progress! And now let's get rid of the GRE requirement across @UW. Momentum seems to keep building to dismantle the focus on standardized assessments. It is a bit of hope. https://komonews.com/news/local/uw-permanently-removes-satact-requirement-for-incoming-students …

Wow eliminating standardized tests makes it easier for rich families to game the system & get their less talented kids into elite schools. Why would you want to do that?

Counterintuitive: Wealthier, suburb kids have a more leisurely time in HS. That helps keep high GPA Poorer kids in city have harder time keeping consistently high GPA for 4 yr of HS SAT/ACT helps lower GPA students show they are qualified even if they had a few rough semesters

That's the logic... IF they are able to prepare for the tests, which are of a very specific format. Rich families pay for prep classes that others can't afford.

It is specifically for this reason that in the UK decades ago they used IQ tests widely to recognize talented individuals from lower social classes in order to provide them cheap education, benefitting both those individuals & nation as a whole. Sickening reversal taking place.

Because they're not bothered to find the REAL root cause of any problem. Whatever sticks socially with zero pushback is how this whole trainwreck continues.

Really? They're going to do that no matter what. Standardized tests make it harder for kids from lower socioeconomic groups to even get access.

The results of this are going to be so predictable. Except I'm eager to learn what our moral betters will be screaming about in 10 years.

Not necessarily. If other factors take its place it could be even better for people.
