What happens to universities over time as STEM departments still operate as real disciplines, with standards of rigor and objective admissions requirements, and the social sciences/humanities departments are bad jokes? Surely initial effects already visible in some schools.

Value of truth telos is staggeringly high. Next dozen years will likely see the first global top-10 (Nobels on staff) virtual University… domiciled offshore. Audacious goals, academically free, but teaching in the cloud and with labs moved to week-long destination workshops.

I knew a young chess master who was hired by Bell Labs directly out of High School, around 1972 or so. (J. Garnett.) I suspect this is a trend largely beginning with Silicon Valley firms that is likely to greatly accelerate. (Fits corporate feudalism, see SF, and Joel Kotkin.)
