I lived in the UK from 1992 through 2001, and have visited for at least a few weeks a year since then. Very familiar with TFL etc.

The UK public transport is inferior to the US, and that is really hard to do.

Lived in UK for 9 years, visit there often, and I strongly disagree. London, at least, has much better tube, buses, and light rail, much better coordinated through Citymapper etc, than any American city.

Because public transport in SF didn't serve certain areas well & is dirty & has homeless mentally ill on it, a local business person started small van transportation service to dwtn. It was clean & ran on an app & was well-used. He sold it to Ford & was ended soon after.

Trust me, public transport in the UK is a laughing stock. Its piss poor quality for ever higher prices, it's been this way for as long as I can remember.

I prefer private transportation. It frees you from government. With public transportation, they track your every move and they determine which stops are okay. What if you wish to go to a specific spot in the countryside? Your automobile is your independence.
