You can respect your ancestors without respecting all of their opinions. Just as our 22nd century descendants might have the wisdom to respect our fallible & often foolish selves.

General principles have little to no meaning in social sciences apart from expressing truisms, and I'd say this is a good example of that. "You can respect your ancestors without respecting all of their opinions" is about on a level w/"Not everything is pure good or pure evil."
