THAT'S BECAUSE IT *IS* FINE FOR THE GIANT GLOBALIST CORPORATIONS IN THE MAJOR STOCK INDICES. IT'S NOT BAD FOR AMAZON AND WALMART FOR SMALL BUSINESS TO BE CRUSHED OUT OF EXISTENCE.

You understand a lot of things profoundly well Geoff - I have huge respect - but stock markets is not one of them. This article I wrote might help you wrap your head a bit more around why the stock market is seemingly doing crazy things. https://lt3000.blogspot.com/2020/05/coronavirus-update-from-unknown-unknown.html …

I don't pretend to understand stock markets. I'm just not afraid to be puzzled by their behavior, & to ask questions that many people have. Thanks for the link!

Pandemic is transferring assets from savers to spenders. Global recession is opportunity. Geopolitics only matters when it affects business negatively. Mass unemployment means more desperate workers. Mass riots are taking out smaller competitors. The future is bright!

I’ll go quasi-Pinker on you to rebut: Pandemic was mostly hype. Hype-based recession. There’s always been geopolitical tension. Mass unemployment is a short-lived reorientation of the workforce, based on hyped pandemic. Mass riots will pass and some needed reforms will be made.

Agreed. In this case the market is actually the more reasoned one, not buying into the election year crisis hype mode. It’s basically saying the recession was artificially induced and once people calm down we’ll be good.
