Pro (but obvious) tip: if you rent an airbnb or hotel room with a ticking clock, and you don't like it, just take the battery out. Then before you leave, put it back in and reset the time.

There are actually a lot of clocks that tick-tock without any battery - how do you propose that airbnb customers disable those? My father used to repair the ones that got broken because people didn't understand what "pendulum" or "escapement" have to do with time pieces.
