Has to do with them considering themselves part of the super special "Fourth Estate".
I'm always puzzled by 'journalist' personalities until I remember the kinds of kids who edited the high school newspaper. Entitled, yet fragile.

My hypothesis is if we run a -fictional- analysis on journalist lives nowadays we'll find a huge correlation between having a financial safety net of some sort and a chase to be a stand-out child delivered through virtue signaling on one hand and the "quality" of what's written
