I think the difference between people already familiar with a job now doing it remotely and people new to a job needing to be trained remotely is underestimated.

If you seriously think about it many parameters will remain: language, qualification, experience, time zone, legal details, etc. Not every job is coding.

This is already happening in a lot of areas, and people are doing just fine. The good (for you) news is that things like generalized linear models and/or hackerrank interview prep seem to greatly defer most of those 4 billion people.

Language is a huge barrier, I work for a company that contracts with a team abroad and the language barrier is leading to increased development time, which is cancelling out any savings from cheaper labor

There are other difficulties with out of country/ region hires that make this apocalyptic scenario unlikely. Many reasonably skilled white collar workers in some fields already work from home. They are not being replaced by cheaper Asian workers.
