I get this. But also, people need money and forgo income for kids. But also isn't mating effort like 1-hour dates and raising kids is like 24-7 for 18 years? Seems like parental investment is way higher/costlier than mating effort.
Ask all the guys who write 'TFW no gf' whether mating effort is trivial.

I read (and enjoyed) your book "Mate", which demonstrates that you can put a lot of work into worthwhile self-improvement as part of mating effort. I don't think people's loneliness is trivial. But mating effort seems small relative to parenting.
