If you think of raising kids as 'unpaid labor' why have kids?

I get this. But also, people need money and forgo income for kids. But also isn't mating effort like 1-hour dates and raising kids is like 24-7 for 18 years? Seems like parental investment is way higher/costlier than mating effort.

You can normally maintain a full time paid job whilst courting someone, so no. To the extent that paid work is displaced by household/parenting work, this is unpaid labour. Of course not all of it is displaced, but at least some typically is.

i'm sure women expend no labor to attract mates, after all there's no skincare industry, women don't wear cosmetics, & there are zero books for women abt getting a husband

It’s important to the NYT that we monetize every waking moment of our lives. Live to work > work to live

This reminds me of the time when Homer wanted Marge to pay him $500 for sex so he could afford a bowling team

Laughing at the idea of a couple exchanging itemized lists of their labor on a biweekly basis and having to pay each other out. Hiring an accountant and HR firm to negotiate hourly rates and what counts as billable activity. Audits for accountability. Taxes. The whole deal.

When equality is disputed and the embezzled overages need to be exposed... double down, bring in the forensic accountants.
