This is the same problem I have with most "phobias," like "homophobic" (when it's not merely being used as a bludgeon enforce ideological compliance). I don't know anyone who's fearful of gay people, but I've met a few who dislike them. Let's call it what it is.
I don't know any details about this particular case, but I do find it hard to take people seriously when they label anybody else's sexual behavior 'degenerate'. If you mean 'immoral', just say 'immoral'.
