Pro tip: if someone says they're 'very concerned' about climate change, ask them if they're more worried about permafrost melting or about methane clathrate melting. If they don't have an answer ready, they weren't 'concerned' enough to learn much about climate change.

I mean, I don't know. The same logic dictates that pro-life folks should know what percentage of fertilized eggs fail to implant, the stages of development of a fetus, etc. I'm pro-choice, but that doesn't strike me as right.

Many, many people are concerned about issues because *people they trust* are concerned about those issues. That's a perfectly reasonable position. I'm concerned about preventing heart attacks and I know next to nothing about what they actually are.

Democracy isn't so much about the wisdom of the crowd as it is about the prevention of any one small group enslaving the rest, which of course is why the CCP hates it.

The point of a democracy is merely to avoid tyranny or civil war. It doesn't imply every voter is an expert in every subject, and in a well-ordered society, information work is delegated to specialists, journalists, scientists and so on.
-
Also, by 'intense Culture War', you mean intense disinformation campaign and political corruption by an incumbent industry.

You don't need to know details, just pick credible experts and listen to them. This is more or less what a king, dictator, or oligarchy would do so it's not an issue particular to democracy. I doubt Putin or Mohammed bin Salman know details of climate change either.

To select between policies that respond to current values/priorities of the majority of people.

I really hope this response from the "majority of people" is not expected to lend credence to these "current values/priorities"...Seems a non-binary network of values/priorities would be much more representative...

You posed such a contrived question, though. When it comes to climate change, I’m less concerned about whether thing A or thing B is melting than I am about rising sea levels and the refugee crises that will be caused by once-tillable lands becoming uninhabitable.
