Seems like every proposed alternative to IQ in history is either: (a) a cognitive virtue that turns out to correlate strongly with IQ; or (b) moral virtues and generalised niceness of the sort that everyone in history has always acknowledged isn't the same as smarts.

I'm tripping over the lack of a definition/characterization of rationality. Elsewhere Stanovich claims irrationality is due to cognitive miserliness & mindware gaps, but he seems to ignore active social influences.

People often follow the norms of rationality (even when they don't wan to) because they are in communities where they will be shamed if they fail to follow the norms.
