Ethical maturity means you care about the well being of all sentient life. If we don't, we're not ethically mature.

we are trying to ascribe motive to something we fundamentally don't understand. imo the only thing we know for sure is *something* is happening here, and it's worth exploring. pretending it doesn't matter bc little green men don't make sense feels to me as missing the point.

First, I can care about the wellbeing of the deer and not want to hang out with it. Second, ethical maturity and technological sophistication aren't the same thing—if aliens did come, they've clearly achieved the latter but not necessarily the former.

Third, if our ethics are rooted in our genetic endowment, there's not much reason to assume they'd have the same ethics.
